Learning is fun!

This week is going to be very busy. I have EVERYTHING due on Thursday and I have more meetings and appointments scheduled than I know what to do with. Isn't learning fun? Instead of doing something productive, I chose to begin a blog. I have tried to fight the trend... but look at me now. What a follower! I wanted to dish a little on my newest home purchase. On Saturday, I went to Wal-Mart (Yes, it is the evil empire but they had the best deal for this poor graduate student.) to buy a dehumidifier. Ordinarily, I would not even think of picking up such an item, but because I now live in Florida, my house is molding and I need to fight back. As soon as I got it home, I set it up, turned it on, and let it go. WOW! I ran the machine from about 1:30 in the afternoon until about 10:00 that evening and it pulled about 8 gallons of water from the air. ASTOUNDING! I have never seen anything like it, being from California and all. I do hope this cuts down on the mold growth. Yucky! Each posting to my Blog will have some sort of little gem. A "gem" might be a quote, some words of wisdom, a new recipe, a photo... pretty much anything that makes me happy. For this installment, I choose to explain the name of my Blog... "Essentials". I chose this name from a little plaque I received from some amazing folks I had the great opportunity to work with this summer. During my first semester in graduate school, the plaque has provided me many gentle reminders about how I need to view others and the world. It reads: "Essential Piece - Isn't it a wonderful thing that we're all different? Each of us has strengths and skills to share. And when we link our individual strengths together, we're invincible." This is certainly true. No matter how insecure I am about myself and my abilities... I know everyone, including me, has something special to offer.
